In our society we have a phrase you may use, or that you may have heard. In some cases, you may hear it often. The phrase is “For real?” Let me first ask, is it a question, or a statement? I believe it is usually used as a question. We may have questions about a lot of things. In our world it appears that everything changes. Some of the things and places we thought would be there forever are gone!
Recently, I was in my hometown of Hartselle, Alabama. I had two of my grandchildren with me. I decided to take a trip down memory lane and show them the elementary school that I had attended as a child. Guess what? For Real?!? It was GONE!!! I heard one of my grandchildren say, “Papa went to school in a vacant lot!”
One of Jesus’ disciples sounds like many people today. We know him as Thomas. Maybe we know him best as “doubting Thomas.” Thomas wanted to believe in Jesus, and in all Jesus could do. If Thomas had lived today he may have often said, “For Real?!?” Even after the story broke about Jesus’ resurrection, even with the number who knew the tomb was empty, Thomas said, “For Real?!?” I want to know what Thomas said. Remember how the story goes? (John 20: 24-31) Jesus invited Thomas to step forward and touch His hands. To feel where the nails had been. To touch His side, where the spear had pierced him. Thomas did what Jesus asked. Thomas knew!!! Thomas could say, “It is ‘For Real!’ Jesus is alive!!”
Jesus is alive today. Jesus is with you. Jesus wants each and every one of us to KNOW Him!!
For Real?!? —- I promise, it is For Real!!!!!!
